// Effects of Hearing Loss and Hearing Aid Directionality on Performance and Orienting Behavior in a Multi-Talker Audiovisual Search Task

// This study examined how hearing loss and hearing aid microphone settings affect performance and orienting behavior in a complex audiovisual task with multiple talkers. Twenty-two hearing-impaired and twenty normal-hearing participants located and identified target narratives under unaided and aided (omnidirectional and directional microphones) conditions, with head and eye movements tracked. Hearing-impaired individuals showed poorer accuracy, larger localization errors, longer response times, and different orienting behaviors, relying more on eye movements. Directional microphones reduced accuracy and increased errors, particularly for normal-hearing participants, indicating that hearing loss and hearing aid directionality impact speech perception and localization in complex environments.
