// A National Cohort Study of Tinnitus and Hearing Loss in the Million Veteran Program
// This study analyzed hearing loss and tinnitus in 267,395 U.S. Veterans, finding high prevalence (86% hearing loss, 47% tinnitus) with earlier and more severe symptoms compared to civilians. Word recognition declined with age and hearing loss, and tinnitus was linked to traumatic brain injury, anxiety, and depression. Veterans showed distinct audiometric patterns, suggesting underlying cochlear nerve degeneration not detected by standard tests. The results call for improved diagnostic methods and integrated care addressing auditory and neuropsychiatric conditions.
