// The Influence of Liquid Consistency and Food Texture on Swallowing: A Systematic Review Update
// This review updates evidence on how liquid consistency and food texture impact swallowing in humans, focusing on studies from 2012 to 2024 using IDDSI terminology. Analysis of 70 studies showed that thicker liquids consistently improved swallowing safety compared to thinner ones, and smaller bolus volumes reduced residue with thickened liquids. Food textures rarely caused penetration-aspiration but often increased residue in patients. The findings support individualized clinical decisions on texture modification based on thorough assessment.
