// This review examined 47 studies to assess if musical training before cochlear implantation (preimplant musicianship) affects outcomes after implantation in adults. Most studies found only small, task-specific benefits of preimplant musicianship on music perception, with no consistent improvement in speech outcomes or quality of life. Postimplant music engagement showed stronger positive associations with enjoyment and perception. Overall, preimplant musicianship was not a reliable predictor of better post-CI outcomes, suggesting future research should use standardized methods and explore interactions with rehabilitation.
