// Investigating the contribution of peripheral hearing sensitivity, central auditory factors, and cognitive factors on the recognition of time-compressed speech
// This study examined how hearing ability, neural speech processing, and cognition affect understanding fast speech in different age and hearing groups. Electrophysiological and cognitive tests showed older adults had weaker subcortical encoding but stronger cortical tracking than younger adults, especially with time-compressed speech. Younger adults processed speech faster and recognized more highly compressed speech accurately. The findings indicate that hearing sensitivity and processing speed predict fast speech recognition, while cortical processes mainly aid recognition when speech timing cues remain intact.
