// This study examined how older and younger adults understand conversational speech in real-time using a topic monitoring task. Participants identified topic-related targets in dialogues under different conditions of presentation modality, noise, speaker switches, and contextual predictability. Results showed that audio-visual presentation sped response times, especially for older adults, while noise slowed responses and reduced accuracy. Older adults experienced more difficulty immediately after speaker switches but used context more effectively, particularly in challenging listening situations.
