// Asymmetry of vestibular pathways predicts upper-brainstem auditory imbalance in subjective somatosensory tinnitus: A tract-specific chronological reorganization model
// This study investigated subcortical auditory and vestibular pathway changes in normal-hearing individuals with unilateral somatic tinnitus using auditory brainstem and vestibular evoked potential tests. Significant reduction in ocular VEMP amplitude was found on the tinnitus side, and combined vestibulocollic and vestibulo-ocular asymmetries predicted upper brainstem auditory asymmetry. These findings suggest specific subcortical electrophysiological imbalances linked to tinnitus and support using VEMP measures as objective biomarkers. The results provide a basis for future trials on early bimodal neuromodulation to prevent persistent tinnitus-related neuroplasticity.
