// This study investigated how signal degradation and cognitive load affect lexical bias in speech perception. Younger adults categorized speech sounds along word-nonword continua with either unprocessed or vocoded (degraded) stimuli while under different cognitive loads. Results showed stronger lexical bias with degraded signals, and cognitive load only reduced this bias when combined with digit memory tasks, not image memory. The findings suggest signal degradation increases reliance on lexical knowledge, while cognitive load has limited impact on lexical bias.
