// The Failure Index as Marker of the Neural Health Profile in MED-EL CI Users: A Retrospective Analysis
// This study translated the Failure Index (FI), a marker derived from electrically-evoked compound action potentials (eCAP), to evaluate cochlear health in human cochlear implant users. Retrospective analysis of 278 ears showed FI was stable postoperatively, increased with age, and reflected neural health variations along the cochlea, independent of electrode placement. FI correlated better with speech perception than other eCAP measures, especially in postlingual deafness. The findings suggest FI can effectively identify areas of reduced spiral ganglion neuron survival and help assess neural health in implanted ears.
