// This study systematically reviewed and meta-analyzed speech perception abilities in children with speech sound disorders (SSDs). The meta-analysis of forced-choice identification tasks showed children with SSDs have significantly poorer speech perception than typically developing peers. The findings highlight the importance of assessing perceptual skills in SSD diagnosis, with identification tasks providing strong evidence and neurophysiological methods offering deeper insights. Future research should explore perception in natural listening environments and test perceptual interventions for improving speech outcomes.
