// Age-Related Changes in Middle-Ear Sound Transmission: Insights From Wideband Acoustic Immittance, Distortion Product Otoacoustic Emissions, and Air-Bone Gap Analysis
// This study examined age-related changes in middle-ear sound transmission using wideband acoustic immittance, otoacoustic emissions, and air-bone gap measurements in young and older adults. Older adults showed altered absorbance patterns, lower resonant frequency, and reduced otoacoustic emission responses compared to young adults. A positive association between absorbance and otoacoustic emissions was found only at 4 kHz, with no clear link between absorbance and air-bone gap. The results suggest age affects middle-ear function, but its role in conductive hearing loss remains unclear, warranting further research.
