// This study evaluated the Diagnostic Evaluation of Language Variation-Screening Test (DELV-ST) using data from 853 African American students in Grades 1-5. Confirmatory factor models showed that DELV-ST items did not function well as unidimensional measures and some responses were weak or insufficiently informative. The findings suggest that DELV-ST's scoring and diagnostic validity are limited, indicating a need for more diverse linguistic tasks to better assess dialect variation. Consequently, the test's relationship to language and reading skills is uncertain.
