// Influence of Posture, Viscosity, and Neck Circumference on Swallowing Acoustics: A Mixed-Effects Analysis

// This study investigated how head-neck posture, bolus viscosity, and neck circumference affect swallowing sound duration and mean acoustic intensity recorded via a neck-mounted microphone in healthy adults. Using linear mixed-effects models, researchers found that mean acoustic intensity was higher in the chin-tuck posture and varied with bolus viscosity, with neck circumference negatively impacting intensity. Swallowing sound duration showed minimal posture-related changes. The findings suggest that anatomical factors and task conditions must be considered when interpreting uncalibrated acoustic swallowing measures.
