// Does Race Influence Velopharyngeal Structure Size and Velar Stretch During Sustained Phoneme Production in Children?
// This study examined racial differences in velopharyngeal anatomy and velar stretch during sustained phoneme production in Black and White children using MRI. Black children showed significantly longer and thicker effective velums and required less velar stretch than White children. The findings highlight the need for race-specific reference data to accurately assess velopharyngeal function in clinical settings. Without such data, diagnoses may be inaccurate across racial groups.
