// This study investigated whether older adults with hearing loss (OAHL) show enhanced visual speech processing as a compensatory mechanism. Using a cross-modal lexical matching task with auditory and visual words presented in different orders and noise levels, researchers tested perceptual sensitivity and visual attention. Results showed no evidence that OAHL had better visual speech perception or gaze patterns compared to typical-hearing adults, and hearing loss was linked to poorer overall sensitivity. Thus, the visual bias in OAHL does not appear to stem from enhanced high-level visual speech processing.
