// This study explored factors influencing family physicians' decisions to refer adult patients for hearing assessments using interviews with nine physicians. Physicians consider patient health, symptoms, medical history, and protocols, as well as personal experience and education when deciding to refer. Barriers include medical contraindications, patient motivation, limited specialist access, and logistical challenges, especially in rural areas. Findings highlight the need for more audiologist involvement in primary care and additional physician education to improve referral practices.
