Using a picture verification task, researchers found that neurotypical children understood zing6hai6 well, preferring its preverbal use, while autistic children showed accurate understanding only in presubject use and were generally slower in processing. Autistic children's comprehension was delayed but improved with age, indicating distinct developmental patterns influenced by cognitive maturation and syntactic complexity.
