// The band importance function for the Dutch digits-in-noise test: A computational derivation using human and automatic speech recognition data, including extended high frequencies

// This study derived the band importance function (BIF) for the Dutch digits-in-noise (DIN) test. Twenty young normal-hearing adults completed DIN triplet recognition across multiple SNRs with one-third-octave filtered signals, and the BIF was computed using Kates (2013) with digit and triplet scoring; ASR systems (Whisper, FADE) were used for comparison and extended high frequencies (EHFs) were included. The Dutch DIN BIF substantially differs from existing BIFs, with greater contribution from high frequencies and about 9% of information in the EHFs. The new BIF better predicted DIN speech recognition thresholds than the SPIN BIF, scoring method had minor effects, and ASR-derived BIFs did not match human-derived BIFs.
