// The study aimed to establish sound-field norms for the Children's English and Spanish Speech Recognition test (ChEgSS) using English or Spanish targets in speech-shaped noise and two-talker speech, and to provide preliminary data for children with hearing loss. Two experiments tested 4–17-year-olds: normally hearing English monolinguals and Spanish-English bilinguals, and children with bilateral hearing loss tested with and without hearing aids. Results showed speech-recognition scores improved with age (more so for the speech masker than noise), bilinguals performed similarly in English and Spanish, and aided scores for children with hearing loss were similar to or better than unaided scores. The authors conclude ChEgSS is feasible in the sound field for assessing speech recognition and amplification benefit in English monolingual and Spanish-English bilingual children.
