// Spatial Hearing in Individuals With Unilateral Peripheral Vestibular Disorders: An Exploratory Study
// This preliminary study tested spatial hearing and selected cognitive functions in 15 people with unilateral peripheral vestibular disorders and 18 age‑matched healthy controls using audiological and cognitive assessments and spatial listening tests (co‑located SV0 and spatially separated SV90). The vestibular group showed poorer spatial hearing overall; after adjusting for age and pure‑tone average, deficits remained significant for the spatially separated condition (SV90) and for spatial advantage but not for the co‑located condition (SV0). Tinnitus prevalence differed between groups but was not linked to spatial performance, and there were no group differences in cognitive tests. These findings suggest unilateral peripheral vestibular dysfunction can impair spatial auditory perception despite clinically normal hearing.
