// A Survey of U.S. Audiologists' Speech-in-Noise Testing Practice Patterns for Adults
// This study surveyed U.S. audiologists to characterize speech-in-noise (SIN) testing practices, attitudes, facilitators, and barriers. An anonymous online Qualtrics survey of 275 licensed audiologists collected demographics, patient populations, and SIN testing practices and was analyzed with descriptive statistics and cross-tabulations. Most respondents reported high confidence and clinical usefulness for SIN testing, about half used it frequently (usage varied by workplace), the main use was validating patient-reported SIN difficulties, and the main barrier was lack of time; confidence correlated with perceived usefulness. The authors conclude SIN testing is commonly used more for assessment than treatment, but results may be affected by self-selection and social desirability biases.
