// The Relationship between Swallowing Muscle Mass and Tongue Muscle Strength and Endurance in Head and Neck Cancer Patients

前瞻橫斷研究（n=53）以CT量化吞嚥肌群（矢狀面舌複合區）對照舌肌力與耐力｜結果顯示CT肌量與前/後舌力及耐力皆無顯著相關，經調整回歸亦無相關｜建議CT肌肉指標補充而非取代功能性舌測（Iowa口壓儀，測舌壓）於肌少症吞嚥障礙評估。

// This prospective cross-sectional study of 53 untreated primary mucosal head and neck cancer patients examined whether CT-assessed swallowing muscle mass (mid-sagittal tongue complex area) is associated with tongue strength and endurance. Tongue strength and endurance were measured with the Iowa Oral Performance Instrument and associations were tested with correlation and multivariable regression adjusted for age, sex, and nutritional status. Swallowing muscle mass was not significantly correlated with anterior or posterior tongue strength or with tongue endurance, and regression analyses confirmed no association. Therefore CT-based SwMM and tongue performance appear to be distinct domains, so CT muscle metrics should complement rather than replace functional tongue testing in sarcopenic dysphagia assessment.
