SPEAK OUT!

// Communication Changes Following SPEAK OUT!: Perspectives of People With Parkinson's Disease and Their Care Partners

// This study tested whether the SPEAK OUT! Therapy Program delivered via telehealth improves self-reported communicative effectiveness and voice function in people with Parkinson's disease (PwPD) with hypokinetic dysarthria, and whether patient factors or care partner ratings influence outcomes. Twenty-seven PwPD completed the program; CES and VHI-10 were measured at three pre- and three posttreatment points, 13 had care partner CES ratings, and linear mixed-effects models assessed change and moderators. Patients showed significant pre-to-post improvements on both CES and VHI-10, with gains moderated by cognition (MoCA), dysarthria severity, and homework completion. Care partner ratings did not change alignment with patient self-ratings, and findings provide preliminary support for SPEAK OUT! administered via telehealth.
