// Next Steps for Developing a Precision Medicine Approach to Word Learning After Pediatric Traumatic Brain Injury: A Tutorial and Roadmap for Clinical Research in Speech-Language Pathology

// This narrative review argues for more study of word learning in children with traumatic brain injury (TBI), framing word learning as a mechanistic link between memory, neural/cognitive development, and long-term academic and rehabilitation outcomes. The authors review the stages of word learning, its ties to memory and brain development, and propose principles for a precision approach to assessing individual word-learning profiles. They note that word learning is understudied in pediatric TBI despite existing, context-sensitive protocols. Studying it could reveal how multiple cognitive systems contribute to learning difficulties and enable targeted rehabilitation to improve memory, learning, and developmental trajectories.
