// Subglottic Pressure and Immersion Depth: Key Determinants of Voice Outcomes in Water Resistance Tube Exercise
// The study tested how water-resistance tube (WRT) immersion depth and subglottic pressure (Psub) affect oral pressure oscillations, glottal adduction, and perceived ease of phonation. Forty adults (20 with normal voice, 20 with functional dysphonia) phonated into a tube at five immersion depths and three Psub targets while oral pressure metrics, EGG contact quotient (CQ), and self-rated ease were recorded. Greater immersion depth and higher Psub increased CQ, increased instability of oral pressure oscillations (amplitude/frequency/jitter/shimmer), altered bubble/massage sensations, and reduced perceived ease, with similar effects in both groups. Controlling immersion depth and Psub is therefore important to optimize WRT therapy.
