// This study tracked change in discourse-level signed composition in 181 deaf children (preK–3) over one academic year by collecting self-generated narrative, informational, and opinion signed compositions in fall and spring and analyzing change with linear mixed-effects models. Children showed growth in discourse organization across all genres; grade level predicted change more strongly than chronological age, early language deprivation was linked to smaller gains, and demographics (gender, race, additional disabilities) had minimal effects. The results offer quantitative benchmarks for signed composition development and suggest early language access and language services are important for supporting discourse-level signed language growth.
