// Longitudinal Changes in Cochlear Implant Datalogging and Quality of Life Measures

// This retrospective longitudinal cohort study of 104 adult cochlear implant users tracked device datalogging at 1, 3, 6, and 12 months and analyzed associations with CIQOL-35 scores using linear mixed-effects models. Average daily use rose from 11.2 to 11.8 hours between 1 and 3 months then plateaued, while time in quiet increased (42% to 46%) and time in speech (31% to 28%) and noise (20% to 18%) declined over 1–12 months. Higher daily use was associated with better CIQOL-35 scores; more time in noise correlated with worse communication, emotional, environmental, and social scores, and more music exposure correlated with better entertainment scores. The authors conclude listening patterns and quality-of-life domains are linked and recommend causal studies to inform individualized counseling for an improved early CI experience.
