// Reading in adolescents with hearing loss: Slower responses despite neural sensitivity to morphosyntax
// They tested whether morphosyntax contributes to written-language difficulties in adolescents with hearing loss (mostly cochlear-implant users) using a minimal two-word grammaticality-judgment task while recording EEG at the onset of the second word, compared to monolingual and multilingual hearing controls. Behaviorally, accuracy was near ceiling but the hearing-loss group responded more slowly than controls, and within that group higher working-memory predicted better accuracy. ERP results showed incongruent pairs reliably evoked N400 and P600 effects across the sample with no interactions with group or construction, and no early components showed HL-specific violation patterns. Thus, under low working-memory demands, later neural responses to minimal agreement violations are intact across groups, while adolescents with hearing loss show slower behavioral responding and working-memory–linked accuracy.
