// The mediating role of pain in the relationship between perioperative anxiety and postoperative recovery following adenotonsillectomy in children
// This prospective observational study of 130 children (age 5–12) undergoing adenotonsillectomy measured perioperative anxiety, postoperative pain, sleep quality, and recovery using validated scales and tested associations with hierarchical regression and Hayes PROCESS mediation. Postoperative pain decreased and recovery improved from day 1 to week 1 while sleep quality did not change; regression showed pain was the strongest predictor of recovery at both timepoints. Mediation analysis found perioperative anxiety had no direct effect on recovery but indirectly worsened recovery by increasing postoperative pain. Early identification of perioperative anxiety and supportive non‑pharmacological strategies to reduce pain may improve postoperative recovery.
