// This study tested whether native language (English, Spanish, Mandarin) affects phoneme perception in normal-hearing adults. Two experiments were used: a 2AFC same–different task on an 11-step /d/-/t/ VOT continuum and a 3AFC odd-one-out task with expanded CV/VCV stimuli. Results showed no overall group differences, but Mandarin and Spanish speakers differed on intermediate VOT contrasts in Experiment 1, while all groups achieved 100% accuracy with the broader stimulus set in Experiment 2. Conclusion: native language can affect discrimination of intermediate VOT contrasts, but using a wider range of stimuli minimizes language-related differences, supporting discrimination-based assessment and careful stimulus/task design.
