// This meta-analysis assessed whether prenatal maternal stress raises the risk of allergic rhinitis in children by pooling nine studies (40,630 participants) from major databases up to May 20, 2026 and calculating pooled odds ratios. Overall prenatal stress was linked to higher offspring AR risk (OR 1.69, 95% CI 1.51–1.86), with a gradient by stress type: anxiety (OR 1.42), depression (OR 1.61), and stressful life events (OR 1.74). The authors conclude that maternal stress during pregnancy increases the likelihood of childhood allergic rhinitis, with more severe or specific stressors associated with greater risk.
