// Variety Matters: Measuring Semantic Verb Types in Conversation Following ECoLoGiC Treatment for People With Moderate or Severe Aphasia

// This study tested whether ECoLoGiC-Tx, a conversation treatment for people with moderate-to-severe aphasia, changes how often and which semantic types of verbs they use. Ten participants received 60-minute sessions twice weekly for 10 weeks and conversational samples were analyzed before, after, and at maintenance for overall verb frequency and semantic verb types. After treatment, overall verb use increased for four people with nonfluent aphasia and decreased for three with fluent aphasia; semantic-type use varied across individuals with no consistent increases, though several showed maintained gains and greater verb diversity at 6 weeks. The authors conclude ECoLoGiC-Tx can alter verb use and may generalize to untrained aspects of everyday communication.
