// A Randomized Comparative Effectiveness Trial of Many-Features and Few-Features Variants of Semantic Feature Analysis Treatment for Naming Impairment in Aphasia
// This randomized trial tested whether the number of features participants must generate in semantic feature analysis (SFA) causally affects naming recovery in chronic post-stroke aphasia. Forty-one people were randomized to SFA requiring either 11 features or 5 features per trial, received 42 hours of treatment over 3 weeks, and were assessed on naming accuracy for treated and untreated semantically related items at exit and 2–3 month follow-up. Both groups showed large, significant gains on treated items and smaller gains on untreated items, but there were no reliable differences between the 11-feature and 5-feature groups. Therefore, manipulating the number of features per trial within the 5–11 range did not influence treatment outcomes.
