// Changes in Electrode Impedance and Cochlear Microphonic in Cochlear Implant Recipients in the First Year After Cochlear Implantation
// We longitudinally measured electrode impedance and cochlear microphonic (CM) at 16 electrodes in 21 adults intraoperatively and at 6 weeks, 3, 6, and 12 months after cochlear implantation. Impedance and CM changed differently by cochlear segment, with the largest impedance increase in the middle segment and the biggest CM decrease (especially apical and middle) between surgery and 6 weeks. Impedance and CM were not correlated, but higher 6-week impedance and lower 3-month CM predicted worse residual hearing at 12 months. These metrics likely reflect different tissue-related processes around the electrode array, and larger studies are needed to confirm their prognostic value.
