// Acoustic rhinometry for the assessment of adenoid hypertrophy: A systematic review

// This systematic review evaluated acoustic rhinometry (AR) as a non-invasive tool to diagnose and monitor adenoid hypertrophy in children by synthesizing 13 clinical studies (650 participants) up to December 2023. Most studies found AR measurements differed between patients and controls, showed moderate–strong correlations with adenoid size by endoscopy/radiography/excised tissue, and increased nasopharyngeal dimensions after adenoidectomy. However, studies lacked test–retest and inter-rater reliability data, standardized protocols, pediatric normative values, and clear links to nasal obstruction or symptoms. Therefore AR is a promising adjunct but not yet ready for routine clinical use; well-designed studies are needed before implementation.
