// This retrospective cross-sectional study evaluated factors linked to preoperative hearing-related quality of life (CIQOL Global) in adult cochlear implant candidates. Using data from 171 patients (main regression n=67, sensitivity n=144), researchers tested correlations and multivariable regression for listening fatigue (VFS-A-10), tinnitus (THI), age, duration of deafness, and AzBio sentence scores. Listening fatigue was the only independent predictor of poorer CIQOL (β≈-0.55, P<0.001); tinnitus, audiologic measures, age, and deafness duration were not. The authors conclude that routine assessment and management of listening fatigue should be integrated into CI candidacy evaluation to improve counseling and patient well-being.
