// Aging of lexical selection and phonological encoding in Chinese spoken word production: An EEG study
// This study used a picture-word interference paradigm with EEG to test how healthy aging affects lexical selection and phonological encoding in spoken word production. Behaviorally, older adults showed larger word- and syllable-frequency effects but reduced phonological facilitation, indicating altered lexical and phonological processing. ERP results revealed stage-dependent age differences: older adults had reduced and temporally shifted neural sensitivity to word frequency, greater influence from phonological distractors, and later, less stable syllable/phonological representations. Together, the findings indicate aging increases phonological competition and reduces the timing and temporal stability of phonological transmission, consistent with inhibitory deficit and transmission deficit accounts.
