// Core Lexicon Analysis of a Storytelling Task in Korean-Speaking Individuals With Aphasia

// This study validated age-stratified Korean core lexicon (CL) checklists and tested their clinical utility for assessing discourse in people with aphasia using a culturally familiar picture-based storytelling task. Thirty-six persons with aphasia and 36 age- and education-matched healthy controls completed the task; researchers calculated percentages of core nouns and verbs from age-specific checklists to compare groups and relate scores to aphasia severity. People with aphasia produced significantly lower CL percentages and a larger noun–verb gap; both noun and verb percentages correlated with severity, but verb percentage was the stronger predictor. The findings support the CL checklists’ validity and clinical usefulness, emphasize verbs’ central role in discourse assessment for verb-salient languages, and underscore the need for culturally tailored tools.
