// This study used the online FTD Insights Survey to assess self-reported communication difficulties and treatment priorities across frontotemporal lobar degeneration (FTLD) variants. Respondents were grouped as language- (n=43), motor- (n=43), or behavior-predominant (n=90) and descriptive statistics were used to analyze symptoms and management engagement. Over 65% in each group reported communication changes—especially word finding and speaking—and more than half prioritized improved communication; 76% of language and motor groups had used speech-language therapy versus 16% of the behavior group. The authors conclude that communication problems broadly reduce social engagement and quality of life in FTLD and call for tailored management and increased therapy referral, especially for behavioral-variant FTD.
