// Adaptation to Auditory Errors Modulates Perception of the Errors

// They tested whether speech motor adaptation changes perception when auditory feedback is fixed (formant-clamp) or shifted, introduced suddenly or gradually. Thirty adults produced CVC words in four conditions and reported perceived vowel feedback with a continuous slider while motor adaptation was measured in the first 100 ms of the vowel. All conditions produced adaptation, but formant-shifts caused larger adaptation and smaller perceived error than formant-clamps; adaptation correlated with perceived error in both shift conditions and the sudden clamp, but not in the gradual clamp. This shows perception and speech motor adaptation are tightly linked but depend on perturbation type, implying context-dependent sensorimotor integration rather than a fixed perception–action mapping.
