// This randomized single-blind study tested whether a single 30‑minute cervical transcutaneous vagus nerve stimulation (tVNS) session affects verbal memory in 31 healthy adults who learned 50 Chinese words and completed immediate and 2‑week delayed tests of accuracy and reaction time. Compared with controls, tVNS produced faster reaction times and higher accuracy overall, but accuracy improvements were confined to younger adults while middle-aged and older adults showed no significant recall gains. Thus, a single cervical tVNS session can speed verbal memory retrieval, but its accuracy benefits depend on age, suggesting neuromodulatory effects vary by neurobiological state and require age-tailored protocols.
